2009 will go down as one of the best years ever for Sebastopol
Little League teams, bringing home three District-35 Area
tournament banners and a pair of District Final pennants.
Major 11/12 Division stars alive in Section
tourneyÂ
The Major 11/12 all-star baseball squad made history last week,
winning the District-35 Final tournament in Petaluma.Â
The locals advanced to the Finals after winning the West Area
tournament a week earlier. Sebastopol opened up on July 11 with a
5-2 win over Fort Bragg, but suffered a 20-1 loss to Petaluma
National two days later. The good guys got sweet revenge in the
tourney championship game, riding the strong arm of pitcher Jacob
Brady in turning back Petaluma, 1-0. Brady tossed a complete-game,
and also ripped a solo homer in the first inning for the game’s
only run.Â
The win represents the first-ever District title for a
Sebastopol Major Division team. Â
The tournament victory propelled the squad into the Section-1
tournament hosted by Larkspur on Saturday. Sebastopol opened with
an 11-3 loss to Clayton Valley. Brady went the first four innings
before giving way to relievers Jacob Royer and Tyson Adviento. The
hot-hitting Adviento paced the attack with two hits and an
RBI.Â
Sebastopol was back in the win column in their next game,
pulling out an exciting, 10-9 win over Vacaville. Grant St. Martin
tossed the first three-plus innings, yielding five hits and three
runs before handing the ball to Adviento (2.1 IP, 5 hits, 3 runs),
who preserved the victory. Top hitters were: Jacob Colbert (3 for
4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs), Brady (3 for 4, 2 RBIs), Blake Nogleberg (2 for
2, run), Adviento (2 for 3, run), and a hit apiece from Vicente
Carreras, St. Martin, and Royer.
On Monday, the good guys pulled out another wild, 11-8 win over
Mill Valley. Ryan O’Hara (1.1 IP, 4 hits, 5 runs), got the start
before Royer (4.2 IP, 5 hits, 3 runs) took over in relief. Pacing
the eight-hit attack were: Brady (3 for 4, 4 RBIs), Colbert (2 for
4, 3 RBIs), O’Hara, (1 for 2), and Adviento (1 for 4).  Â
At press time, Sebastopol was preparing for a semi-final clash
with Napa on July 21.Â
The Major stars are led by manager Steve Sanchez and coaches
Eric Nogleberg and Russ Taylor. The roster also includes players:
Noah Yaylian, Trent Ackerman, Jordan Taylor, Scott Hoffman, Logan
Silverman, and Connor Sanchez.  Â
