The courtyard outside True West on Friday eveniong was a “scene” in more ways than one: Many were there to see and meet Cameron Crowe and Ben Fong-Torres—legendary names in the rock movie canon—as they enjoyed that famous Healdsburg hospitality, mixed and mingled, and enjoyed the movie 'Almost Famous' for the umpteenth time.

“There are usually some fun surprises for us in the line-up of our ‘Audience Favorites’ program,” said co-founder Pamela Demorest. “Some films resonate more with our audience than they did with our celebrity jury, and we always want our guests to feel like a vital part of the process.”

Now that the nominations have been announced, let’s talk about them and what people should try to see before the big show. And once we get closer (the Oscars are March 15 this year), I’ll write my annual piece on what will win versus what should win.
