The Lions and Tigers resumed league volleyball action last week,
as five-time defending champion Analy turned back Windsor and Casa
Grande in three, while the Lions dropped a tough, three-game match
to Petaluma.
Tigers on a roll
The Tigers (6-4, 3-0) kept their four-year regular-season win
streak alive last week and remain the team to beat in the SCL again
this year.
The ladies will get their first big test when they visit
Petaluma this week (Sept. 29, after press time).
Analy invaded the “Jungle” in Windsor on Sept. 22, turning back
an improving Jaguar squad in three games; 25-10, 25-21, and 25-14.
Leading the Tiger net attack were veterans Claire Sullivan (9
kills), Margaret Barnes (5 kills), and Marla Petrucci (22 assists,
and .750 hitting percentage).
Two nights later the Tigers powered past visiting Casa Grande in
three; 25-9, 25-14, and 25-12.  Sullivan led the way with nine
kills. Other standout efforts came from Barnes (7 kills), Petrucci
(21 assists), and Susannah Kay (10 digs). The Tigers recorded a
total of 31 digs in the match.
Lions fall to Trojans
El Molino (11-5, 2-1) entertained a very strong Petaluma
contingent on Sept. 24, falling to the visiting Trojans in three
games; 13-25, 23-25, and 19-25. No individual stats were
available.
Following the match there were no excuses on the El Mo bench,
only praise for a program that has risen to a playoff caliber.
“They were a very good team,” said El Mo coach Leslie Grassl,
referring to the Trojans. “We played hard and had some long
rallies, but their hitters were too much for us to handle.”
Scheduling notes
El Molino’s scheduled Sept. 22 match with Casa Grande was
postponed and will be rescheduled. The Lions will host Analy next
Tuesday, Oct. 6 in the first meeting between the teams this season.
Game times starting with the frosh are 4/5/6:30 p.m.
