Well-known local businessman Barry Steele reportedly passed away last month. The former owner of the Fairview Inn & Suites at the south end of town “died unexpectedly” at age 81 “on the land he loved in Geyserville,” his obituary says. More from the obit: “Barry ‘Like a Strawberry’ Steele was born in Hollywood, CA with a rebel spirit… . In 1972 he traveled north in search of a better life for his young family that brought him to Healdsburg, CA. As a local businessman, he owned and operated the Fairview Motel with his wife Mary for over 20 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed showcasing his many hot rods at classic car shows throughout the Bay Area. He started home brewing at the beginning of the local craft beer movement in the mid 1980’s. Barry designed his dream home overlooking Alexander Valley and cherished the view daily.” (Legacy.com)
