I would say the tournament was very successful from my perspective. There were so many things going on during the four days of REIBT that I wouldn’t be able to comment on all of it, but starting Wednesday with the CASA/Auto Shop food truck unveiling, Culinary students making delicious tacos, and with a holiday sale of student-made goods, what a way to kick off REIBT week.
Of course, the most exciting REIBTs are when the Healdsburg teams play in the championship games. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case this year; however, both the Healdsburg teams came from first-half deficits to win their opening-round games.
As with most years, Championship Saturday provided us with the best games, starting with the Willits/Kelseyville 7th-place game. It was a back-and-forth game with several lead changes, which was highlighted by Willits guard Kaiden Oliver scoring 43 points in the tight win. Wrapping up Saturday was the Justin-Siena girls winning their 3rd straight REIBT title and the Marin Academy Boys’ winning their first championship in their REIBT debut.
Over the course of the four days, I just received so many compliments from the visiting coaches, players, and referees on everything from how beautiful the school campus is to the great food in the hospitality room. This was a great team effort. The HHS maintenance staff helped with set up, the janitors spent late nights prepping for the next day, and parent and student volunteers helped with the scoreboard, shot clock, and scorekeeping duties. It just amazes me how this all comes together…
