Following Healdsburg’s 45-25 win over Skyline on Sept. 11 at Rec Park, the Greyhounds delivered their second in a row on Friday, Sept. 18, ruining Ygnacio Valley’s homecoming game with a 35-24 victory.
It was another All-League performance from senior Frank Rea, who ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a pass from sophomore QB Dylan Hayes for a fourth TD. Junior Elyah Neisingh scored the team’s fifth touchdown by recovering a fumble and racing the length of the field to the opposite goal.
Hayes threw for 93 yards on 11 attempts and was intercepted twice. But he was a standout on defense, tying with Eduardo Diaz at six tackles each.
Their most recent back-to-back wins were at the outset of the 2024 season (three in a row), after which they lost the following 18 games under two different coaches. Now in his second year, coach Taylor Tappin has finally guided the team to the brink of another multi-game winning streak. The results of Friday’s match in Novato will determine how long that streak continues.
Healdsburg’s next home game at Rec Park will come on Oct. 2 against Montgomery, another Redwood Empire-Mountain division opponent. The new division consists of Justin-Siena (now 3-1); Terra Linda (also 3-1); Piner (2-1); Archie Williams, Montgomery and Healdsburg (all 2-2); and the 1-2 Novato.
