Gas for Healdsburg: Probability That a Plant Will Be Established in This City

Mr. S. C. Lowe of San Francisco, constructing engineer of the California Light and Fuel Company, was in Healdsburg last Saturday. There is a strong probability that a gas plant may be established in Healdsburg in the not too distant future, and Mr. Lowe’s mission here was in that line.
A number of businessmen are at present considering the feasibility of organizing a local gas company. The main idea in doing so would be to secure fuel gas, but as the city’s electric plant is at present inadequate to meet the demand for lights, doubtless there would be considerable gas used for illuminating purposes. It is claimed that gas could be supplied to families for cooking purposes at a cost which would not exceed that of wood at $4 per cord. The convenience of the gas, and its cleanliness as compared to wood, however, is a much stronger plea for its use than its cheapness.

Big Gallery Turned Out for Nichols
A gallery of some 250 spectators turned out to see Jimmy Nichols, one-armed golfer, play his exhibition foursome Sunday at Tayman Park. Nichols, who shot a two over par 37 for the 9-holes, was paired with Art Ross against Ken Hoemlein and club professional Bill Hanger, with Hoemlein and Hanger winning the match 2 and 1. Nichols had the best ball, 3 under par through the 8th hole when the match ended. Hanger shot a 35, with Ross and Hoemlein carding 39’s.

The exhibition player, who was accompanied by his wife, said they’d had such a wonderful time that he wanted to come back next year. Nichols said he was particularly impressed with the way the Women’s and Men’s Clubs worked together in setting up the clinic and exhibition and the cocktail party that followed the match.

Maherajah Waterskis Featured in Magazine
Healdsburg’s Maherajah Waterskis, makers of high performance waterskis, waterski accessories, skateboards and other products in laminated wood, is the subject of a small business profile in the latest issue of “Sonoma Business,” a quarterly magazine. The magazine profiles owner Robert Maher (“The Maherajah of Healdsburg”) and his $1.5 million business.
The cover story of the November issue is the background of the county’s $50 million per year wine industry. With the nation’s thirst for table wine growing, local wineries are spending millions to restore the county’s reputation as a producer of fine wine, agricultural writer David MacPhail reports in an article entitled, “Good News Through the Grapevine.”
