The Shape of Things, running at The 222 in Healdsburg through March 2, is the tale of four university students whose paths cross and how their lives change (for the better? for the worse?) over the span of 18 weeks.

Tthis isn’t just the “Best of” the 2024 festival, it includes films from the past 10 years of festivals. “Next week includes all winning films from the four festivals we have produced,” said Pamela Demorest, who co-founded the Festival with husband Kirk Demorest.

"The Shape of Things," a play by Neil LaBute, will be performed on stage at The 222 on two successive weekends, Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2. It’s billed as a “fascinating study into the nature of love and art, and what happens when the two collide.” Tickets from free (18 and under) to $105 (gold level seating).

Often voted Best Dance Band in local music polls and surveys, the Pulsators have been seen on Healdsburg stages since back in the day, if not earlier. They’ve lost none of their ska-rock R&B roots, and they’ll bring it all to the Coyote Den on Sunday.

Feb. 8: The longrunning, ever-surprising Lake Sonoma Steelhead Festival returns to the Congressman Don Clauson Fish Hatchery at the head of Dry Creek Valley. This free event attracts up to 10,000 people to the visitors center, for natural history education, live music, arts and crafts, and fishing-themed games. From 10am to 4pm...

When asked about how the idea for a rock ’n’ roll orchestra for all came about, Jason Eckl dove in on the feeling that orchestral performances can be a bit stiff. “My wife is cellist Rebecca Roudman, who is a member of a number of Bay Area orchestras [including both the Oakland East-Bay Symphony and the Santa Rosa Symphony], and this means I’ve been to a lot of orchestra concerts,” he said.

The great French filmmaker Jacques Tati only made a handful of movies: 'Playtime' is one of his best. Virtually wordless (while a bouillabaisse of European languages is spoken, the gags are visual), the film follows Monsieur Hulot as he navigates the modern world with his self-confidence and composure unaffected.

The Healdsburg Jazz Winter Festival runs from Thursday, Jan. 30, to Sunday, Feb. 2, with shows at the Paul Mahder Gallery, Spoonbar, Montage, the Michel-Schlumberger winery—even St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where Stella Heath’s tribute to Ella Fitzgerald will take place Saturday afternoon. (Heath performs locally year-round, but this Feb. 1 show is already sold out.)

There’s probably no more room in the kitchen for these hands-on workshops on how to make fresh croissants with a few simple tools. The reason is not the cost but the bakery. It’s the same Quail & Condor that lately survived a whirlwind of attention following its NY Times selection as one of the 22 best bakeries in the country. ..
