Local high school wrestlers will begin to ratchet up the intensity level as they open the Sonoma County League dual meet schedule this month.

The Lions took their lumps in the SCL opener against title favorite Petaluma on Jan. 3, with the Trojans taking advantage of an under-manned El Mo squad to post a 75-0 rout.
The Tigers had their scheduled dual meet against Elsie Allen rescheduled to Jan. 25.
On Saturday, both teams were represented at the annual Joe Rios Memorial Tournament in Chico. Representing El Molino were Angel Aguilar (1-2), Nate Wheeler (0-2) and Coleman Hayes (0-2), while Jimmy Carreras (0-2) was the Tiger’s lone representative.
Analy also sent veteran brothers Trevor and Preston Bagan to the prestigious Doc Buchanan tourney in Clovis on Jan. 5, a high level event that features many of the top high school wrestlers in the state. Both went 0-2.
El Molino sent a small contingent to the 20th annual Napa Valley Girls Classic tourney on Jan. 5-6, with senior Angelica Schmeichel (1-3) and freshman Hannah Ricioli (1-2) each scoring wins for the Lions.
“Angelica got valuable mat time after missing part of the season due to illness and showed much improved toughness and determination,” El Mo coach Ron Wright reported. “Hannah wrestled very well and has shown great progress in her first year.”
