Is your toilet also a trash can? No!
Most things do not belong in the toilet. In fact, it is easier to list what can go in: water, toilet paper, pee and poo (the three P’s).
Pick your worst-case scenario
Is America headed to a “worst-case” scenario on its way to attempting to hold a free and fair election? According to several nonpartisan and bipartisan studies, commissions and government watchdogs, the answer is a scary and sobering “yes.” The only wavering in these opinions is over which of several imagined worst-case scenarios will prevail over all others.
Hold future candidates accountable
In response to President Trump’s unprecedented refusal to share basic information with American public, new bill will require that all presidential candidates release tax returns in order to appear on California ballot
Someday we’ll laugh about this . . . right? Resilience, small towns and a new life
In a few weeks we will load up the car and head up north to see my dad and his new home, post Camp Fire.
In need of documentaries
If a single picture is worth a thousand words — as the old saying goes — what is the worth of even the shortest of documentary films, shot at the equivalent of 16 frames per second? (An eight-minute short has 7,680 individual pics.) We dare say, “priceless.”
Ready to go?
Soon it will be time to congratulate the Class of 2017, the older teenagers who will be completing their high school careers and preparing for college, technical training, work careers, travel and entry into adulthood.
Decoding Teenagers: Warrior Mother
I think “toddlerhood” is by far the most fun stage in our kids’ development. They are sponges, always absorbing new information, sights and sounds. The world is exciting and new. A trip to the park is an adventure and making a sand castle is magical. You pick out their clothes, choose their meals and plan their day. Easy right? As their wonderful personalities emerge, you get a glimpse into who they might be, what they might like. After you think you have it figured out, it all starts again because they turn into teenagers.
From the Library
This fall, the Healdsburg Library will be hopping with several new free and fun opportunities for the community. During the month of August, as we wind down our summer activities, we prepare for the coming school year and devise a few new ideas for everyone to try.
Let’s Book It
I grew up listening to music by the Beach Boys, and wanted so much to join them and become a Surfer Girl. A drawback: I lived in Chicago. But I could channel surf on the TV, couch surf as I got older when visiting with friends in other cities and also web surf when shopping for the holidays. Now, looking forward to the new year it appears that our library invites us all to Adventure Surf! It does not matter when or where you live in Sonoma County, opportunities to experience joy and accomplishment are offered to all ages. Check out the events listed below, and get on board. And you don’t have to worry about sharks!
Arts & Entertainment
‘Angels’ lands at Raven Performing Arts
:Every Sunday matinee we do a post-show discussion with the audience, so they get a chance to make comments and ask questions of the actors. We saw there were a lot of people who were quite moved and quite touched by the play. So the opening weekend could not have gone better, as far as I’m concerned," said director Steven David Martin.
