Decoding Teenagers: Back in time

My two teenagers have me addicted to a show that is airing on Netflix right now. It’s based in the 80s, that wonderful time in history when cassette tapes still rocked, MTV was becoming a national phenomenon and Madonna and Michael Jackson saturated the radio. My teens couldn’t help but comment on the clothes and hair styles of the day. They thought the outfits were nerdy and the hair too big on both the male and female actors.

Commentary: Congressional Republicans are at it again

The Congressional Republicans, in the past always against increasing the deficit, are trying to ram through tax legislation that would drastically increase the deficit by giving huge tax cuts to the billionaire/millionaire class and corporations. They have admitted that they are being pressured by their rich donors (i.e. Koch Brothers, Trump, friends of Trump, and others) who want huge tax cuts.

Commentary: What say you?

Some of you have heard my observation that our Town is working for developers rather than for those of us who live here.

It’s on us

Is it possible that Hollywood, our California state legislature, parts of the U.S. military, the NFL, FOX News, an Alabama U.S. Senate candidate and even the White House all have rising evidence of an embedded culture of sexual harassment and the rest of us don’t?

From the Library

It’s time for the Friends of Healdsburg Library Fall Book Sale and the books are here waiting for you. As is typical, the sale runs Wednesday through Friday, November 15–18 with Wednesday a Friends members-only day (join at the door for only $5) and the beloved $6 Bag Sale on Saturday. In addition, the Friends will offer two free bags of books to anyone who has lost their home, also on Saturday. Don’t forget the Special Books — new, high quality books in pristine condition that are looking for a new home — available Wednesday through Friday. Our Friends organization is one of the best around and we are so grateful for all they do to support the library year after year.

Country Roads: Tulbends

We’re going to the park today. Let’s go to the zoo! Spring break, we’ll take a drive to Disneyland. How about Sunday at Golden Gate Park?

But I Digress …All the best

We have seen an inspiring outpouring of support, compassion and selflessness  these past few weeks. We have also witnessed price gouging, looting and lightening-quick litigious trigger fingers.

Sculptor T Barny with diamond saw

Local ‘rock star’ on art tour

For Alexander Valley sculptor T Barny, it’s about more than just about the stone. “It’s a way scientists or astronomers envision the universe as being infinite, but finite,” he says. “It just keeps going, keeps going, keeps going.” The concepts of art and topology animate him.
