About Town: Let’s talk drugs

Are unused and expired medications filling up your medicine cabinet? Don’t flush them down the drain because they will end up in creeks and streams and are harmful to fish. Don’t throw them in the trash because they can leach into the ground when they end up in a landfill and can contaminate groundwater. Help protect your family and the environment by taking your unwanted medications to a participating take-back location.

Not so super

We are now 47 days away from Super Tuesday. If you think that has something to do with the NFL’s Super Bowl, you need a lot of voter education. (The Super Bowl is Feb. 2.) March 3 is Super Tuesday when California and 12 other states will hold primary elections, including party voting for U.S. President.

Someday We’ll Laugh About This, Right? Updates

First update: We’re still in the process of replacing our van. We found a car that might be right, but it had to be brought up from Southern California, so until it arrives we are in a sort of Schrödinger’s Car situation, both having our next car and not having it. In the meantime, we are trying to find a balance between keeping enough gas in the van to be safe, but not enough to regret filling up should we go to sell it.

Return to the Russian River

When Jake Messing stood in front of the mural he had just completed for Russian Riverkeeper on the north side of the nonprofit’s headquarters at 139 Healdsburg Ave., he had finished more than another mural. He had made a return to the source from the sea himself, like the salmon he portrayed.
