Injured institutions
Do we still remember how we voted last November in the U.S. Presidential election? Maybe we penned a write-in protest vote for Bernie. Or, did we pull the lever to support the status quo transition from Obama back to a Clinton? The other choice was for a candidate who promised to “blow up” the Washington, D.C. establishment. He promised to make America great again by taking aim at a bigly lineup of our society’s institutions.

At 300 million years old, dragonflies are reportedly the oldest winged insect. Prehistoric ancestors had wingspans of two and a half feet. Each of four wings moves independently allowing them to hover, fly forward and fly backward.
There’s a new law for that
Just as the last refrains of “Auld Lang Syne” are sung each New Year’s Eve, a bevy of new laws descend upon us like a balloon drop from above. Some years the new laws seem to outnumber the balloons. This year it’s another close competition.

Return to the Russian River
When Jake Messing stood in front of the mural he had just completed for Russian Riverkeeper on the north side of the nonprofit’s headquarters at 139 Healdsburg Ave., he had finished more than another mural. He had made a return to the source from the sea himself, like the salmon he portrayed.
