Wine Words: Working with nature to define a life
Thank you dear readers, for your thoughts and prayers throughout these past months as I lay recovering from a life-threatening illness. As I emerged back into living, sadly I discovered that my dear colleague and friend, Davis Bynum, was failing.
The day nothing happened
A few years ago when I was speaking to a local Rotary Club about newspapers, I was asked what we would do if there was ever a week when there was no news to report. I jokingly answered that, “We’d just have to make something up.” Well, here we are with no meetings, no events, no gatherings, no fundraisers, no libraries, no schools and only lots and lots of other closed doors.
Ripe Rewards: Spring vegetables
Artichokes, asparagus, fava greens, fresh green onions, and so much more begin growing this time of year. Those vegetables scream of a bold appetizer plate or maybe a meal of greens. How healthy. They are examples of bright, beautiful and in-season greens happening here and now.

Wheel of Light, January 2017
The New Year begins on a challenging note with four planets lining up in a T-square formation during January and February. This culminates in a transiting Grand Square around the full Moon on January 12. The main players in the T-square are Jupiter in Libra, Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. Mars transiting through Aries joins them in February. The Grand Square adds the Sun in Capricorn and the Moon in Cancer. All the signs involved are cardinal, meaning that the main problem could be too much impulsive choices and actions. The way out can come from being more deliberate in planning.
Senior Center Connections
Did you know that there is a Senior Center Endowment Fund? The fund was created by a resolution in 1997 and income from the fund is to be used exclusively for the benefit of the Healdsburg Senior Center. With the fund reaching its maturity in 2020, a group of Healdsburg Senior Citizens advisory commissioners and the Friends of the Senior Center have been working on collecting project ideas for the endowment fund to sponsor and would like your feedback.
Arts & Entertainment
More than a movie theater …
Not all the magic will be on the screen when the True West Film Center opens later this month. Here are some photos from a preview on Sept. 25
