Most things do not belong in the toilet. In fact, it is easier to list what can go in: water, toilet paper, pee and poo (the three P’s).

The following snippets of history are drawn from the pages of the Healdsburg Tribune, the Healdsburg Enterprise and the Sotoyome Scimitar, and are prepared by the volunteers at the Healdsburg Museum & Historical Society. Admission is always free at the museum, open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In 1901, the Ladies’ Improvement Club of the City of Healdsburg went to "great expense and labor to improve said club," while in 1951 the local Civil Defense Council announced a practice alert...

"Sure miss the days when candidates were motivated to run to serve their communities and take the high road during the campaign, focusing on their backgrounds, experience and skill sets rather than trying to skewer their opponents. One way to distract ourselves from the threats of the coronavirus pandemic would be to focus on all the unfinished work we started 244 years ago to form “a more perfect union.” This was the imposing goal laid out in the preamble to the U.S. Constitution in 1787. It included the ideals of justice for all, domestic tranquility, general welfare and to secure the “blessings” of liberty and prosperity.

As I sat down to write this I was recalling what I wrote last year at this time.

Driving onto the Hawley Bradford Mountain estate 1000-feet above sea level on a cold winter day, I thought of Premier Cru — French official classifications of vineyards that produce superior wine. Brilliant blue skies and white billowy clouds framed the rolling hills and vineyards patterned into the lay of this land, as if planted by God.
