Billions, not millions
For the most part, voters of Sonoma County have given strong endorsements to their local state senators Mike McGuire and Bill Dodd and assembly members Jim Wood and Marc Levine. These men just cast big votes to support affordable housing, parks and water projects, climate and environmental protection and for a sanctuary state declaration to limit federal raids on innocent undocumented residents.

It’s always a challenge to talk about the bounty and beauty of our Sonoma County without bouncing between clichés and hyperbole. Amidst all our affluence and accoutrements, it’s also very easy to forget that not everyone gets to share in all that plentifulness and prettiness.

One of the most astounding results of the 2016 election was the affirmation of how different and separated California is from the rest of America. Here, we voted for a woman in every race we could, including choosing Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump by a near two-to-one margin. (And the vote total was almost three-to-one in Sonoma County.)

Return to the Russian River
When Jake Messing stood in front of the mural he had just completed for Russian Riverkeeper on the north side of the nonprofit’s headquarters at 139 Healdsburg Ave., he had finished more than another mural. He had made a return to the source from the sea himself, like the salmon he portrayed.
