Commentary: 2019, a year of action: The outgoing mayor reflects on his time in office

Wow, what a year! As things wind down and we are enjoying the holidays, I wanted to take a moment to share some of the actions we took as a council this year.

Trump vs Sonoma County

Remember how we all wanted the Clinton-Trump campaign to be over so all the noise, ranting and ugly attacks would end and we could safely watch TV and read the national news again? Who knew our post-inauguration world would also beckon a  regime of post-truth, alternative facts and government-by-Twitter?

A Jeopardy quiz about America

We are inviting our readers to partake in a short quiz about America as we continue to distill the many outcomes and significances of last week’s elections. Based on a show of hands, an overwhelming majority was eager to embrace this unique and generous offer and was excited to see the city finally move forward with a project that was years in the planning and adopted by council in 2017, but lacked funding. All with virtually no strings attached.

Managing trash and reducing litter

Do you like seeing trash and litter on our sidewalks, streets, yards and waterways? We didn’t think so. Not only do our open spaces look better when they are clean and tidy, it contributes to a healthier environment.

‘Angels’ lands at Raven Performing Arts

:Every Sunday matinee we do a post-show discussion with the audience, so they get a chance to make comments and ask questions of the actors. We saw there were a lot of people who were quite moved and quite touched by the play. So the opening weekend could not have gone better, as far as I’m concerned," said director Steven David Martin.
