Bean Affair. What does that mean? Sounds a little like a Mexican restaurant, yes? But it’s a coffee shop in Healdsburg. Does it imply that you should have a romantic affair with your coffee beans? Can I just say, “Yuck?”

The other day I saw a woman trying to wrestle a bouquet of balloons into her car. The wind was gusting and the balloons were bouncing and the woman was struggling and I had an epiphany: this is an exact allegory of my life as the year ended.

Moving beyond combustion

When we first read about the goal for Sonoma County to see 138,000 new electric vehicles (EVs) replace gas-powered cars by the year 2030, we chortled in disbelief. We wondered about how realistic the Center for Climate Protection was being in its new “Beyond Combustion” white paper on the county’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent below 1990 levels.
