When most people hear about human trafficking, the first thing they think is that it doesn’t happen in our community. Maybe in foreign countries or poverty-stricken towns, they think. But not here.

A sea change is underway in the medical field. The Healdsburg Medical Plaza, a group of offices that share a medical campus with Alliance Medical Center and Healdsburg District Hospital, got permission from the city last week to change its zoning to allow non-medical office uses.

As our nation just completed its 115th Congressional election with almost 120 million people voting amid thunderbolt issues such as immigration, national security and voter suppression, we took special notice of the unique viewpoint shared by a very small cohort — the continent’s Native Americans.
