Three Sonoma County visual artists will each receive a $5,000
Sonoma Arts Emerging Artist award in early 2006 – the largest cash
prize ever offered for individual emerging artists in Sonoma
County. The 2006 awards are administered by the Arts Council of
Sonoma County (ACSC) and are sponsored by the Community Foundation
of Sonoma County. A team of curators will review the nominations in
mid January and select 25 of the strongest candidates for the final
selection. Nominations of emerging artists can be made to the Arts
Council of Sonoma County. For more information, call Carolyn Kantor
at the ACSC offices at 579-2787, ext 4.

&#8220One”
After the horrors of 9/11 took place, Michigan lawyer Ward
Powers embarked in a worldwide search for deeper meanings, a path
that took him to the feet of the Dalai Lama, Ram Dass, Father
Thomas Keating, Dr. Robert Thurman, Deepak Chopra and other
spiritual and religious leaders. The results of his journey is now
a documentary film, featuring Barbara Marx Hubbard. The film debuts
this week at selected Marin and San Francisco movie theaters.
The film &#8220One” is set to open at the Sebastopol Cinemas
on Dec. 16. Why the film? &#8220In an increasingly divided
world, the power of Oneness is longing to emerge; and it is an
energy that the novice filmmakers knew would transcend any
limitations of those who took up the cause,” Ward says. For more

&#8220Every winter, when the great sun has turned his face
away, the earth goes down into a vale of grief, and fasts, and
weeps, and shrouds herself in sables, leaving her wedding-garlands
to decay – then leaps in spring to his returning kisses.” – Charles
Kingsley (1819 – 1875)
