Adam and Evelyn in the Gallery
The Shape of Things, running at The 222 in Healdsburg through March 2, is the tale of four university students whose paths cross and how their lives change (for the better? for the worse?) over the span of 18 weeks.
SMART train is getting closer to Healdsburg
The Town of Windsor is requesting Federal Railroad Administration approval to implement “quiet zones” as the trains approach the station. Routine train horn use at designated crossings will be eliminated between Shiloh Road and the station, except in emergency or safety-critical situations. The hope is that the quiet zones will become effective as early as mid-July, though it will possibly be somewhat later.
Prune Packers continue to win big in summer baseball
The dominance of the Healdsburg Prune Packers over the Pacific Empire League, and all of their Northern California rivals in college summer ball, continues. They opened the 2025 season on June 6 and reeled off eight straight victories before encountering PEL rival the Humboldt Crabs on June 18, losing the middle game of a three-game series by a 6-3 score. Now they've won 10 in a row, and counting...
Are all Wes Anderson films alike? Not quite
Wes Anderson is a genius, and whether or not one appreciates his highly mannered and idiosyncratic style is mercifully subjective. And his singular vision is one that I guarantee will be studied a hundred years from now alongside Jacques Tati, Ingmar Bergman and Jean-Luc Godard.
It’s Final: Council Backs ‘Map D’ for City’s District Elections
Last Monday night marked the conclusion of what City Manager Jeff Kay called “a long and really involved journey” in Healdsburg’s civic history, as the City Council voted to approve a new map for selecting council members by district voting, beginning in 2026.
New arts commission meets the neighbors
The city’s newest citizen oversight group has decided the best way to do their job is to stay in touch with the people they speak for, so they’re having an informal open house with the public next Thursday evening, May 8. It’s billed as a “meet-and-greet,” so don’t expect a stage show even though it will be held at 222 Healdsburg Ave...
Healdsburg Happenings, March 6
It’s time again to set all clocks forward an hour to comport with Daylight Saving Time, to make better use of the longer daylight available during summer. Officially begins at 2am, which becomes 3am when clocks are set forward. DST runs until Nov. 2, the first Sunday in November.
Where the Sidewalk Ends, the Farmers’ Market Begins
'There’s a magic hour on Saturday mornings when the sun hasn’t quite burned through the morning mist and the scent of basil floats on the breeze. It’s in that moment—coffee in one hand, tote bag in the other—that Healdsburg wakes up..." Meet our new columnist, Liza Gershman.
August is Zucchini Month
Going to the Saturday Farmers’ Market in the West Plaza parking lot, one finds it is always a place of seasonality, sociability and serendipity. Those who went last Saturday, Aug. 9, happened upon the annual Zucchini Festival, a family friendly event that’s been going...
Flashbacks: 1975 Wine Fest gets out of control
News from 1975: The event was marred by several fights late in the afternoon. As the afternoon wore on a number of young children were permitted by their parents to splash and play in the Plaza fountain. The children frequently squirted water on Fest guests and were difficult to control. Healdsburg Police arrested two men on charges of resisting arrest and disturbing the peace, after officer Don McNair was reportedly jumped by them.
