SOLDIERS COMING. First Regiment, California Volunteers, Will Camp In Healdsburg
Company B, First Regiment of California Volunteers, of San Francisco, will go into camp in Healdsburg at Luce’s Park September 7th and remain three days. The members of the company will take their meals at the hotels. On Saturday evening, September 7th, a performance and dance will be given by members of the company at Truitt’s theatre, and the net proceeds will be given to the Ladies’ Improvement Club. C. E. A. Creighton and Alexander McCulloch, a San Francisco attorney, spent several days in Healdsburg the past week arranging for the visit of the Volunteers. There are about fifty men in the company.

Re-Hearing on Beer License is Scheduled
The State Board of Equalization has scheduled a re-hearing of the Healdsburg Lions Club’s application for a liquor license for September 20 in Sacramento. The re-hearing follows a favorable recommendation by the referee and indicates that the hearing officer is not going to follow the recommendation. The Lions Club applied early in June for a license for sale of beer in Recreation Park. Opposition to the granting of such a beer license was based on the fact that Recreation Park is near a school, children’s playground and is used for high school athletic contests.
50 years ago – August 26, 1976
Local wineries produce winners at LA fair competition
Thirty-eight wines from Healdsburg vineyards were awarded prizes at the 1976 Los Angeles County Fair’s annual wine tasting competition in Pomona. Local winners were submitted by nine wineries and included 10 gold medal selections and 14 that earned silver medals. The competition attracted a record 74 of the state’s vintners to enter 781 products and resulted in 82 gold medals, 98 silver, 96 bronze and 49 honorable mentions.
Sonoma Vineyards of Windsor led the list of local participants with three gold medal selections, three silver and two bronze. J. Pedroncelli Winery of Geyserville won three silvers, two bronzes and an honorable mention. Dry Creek Vineyard of Healdsburg won two gold medals, two silvers and a bronze. Davis Bynum Winery of Healdsburg won a silver and two bronzes and Foppiano Vineyards of Healdsburg won a gold medal, and a second award and a third award for its jug wines. Geyser Peak Winery won a silver and two honorable mentions. Johnson’s Alexander Valley Wines won a silver medal. Simi Winery of Healdsburg won two golds, a silver and an honorable mention. Trentadue Winery won a gold, two silvers and a bronze. Chateau St. Jean of Kenwood won one of its four awards on an Alexander Valley Johannisberg Riesling from the Robert Young Vineyards. It won a gold award.
