Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa is offering a
free citizenship class starting Feb. 16 on Thursdays from 6 to 9
p.m. at their new offices at 987 Airway Court in Santa Rosa. The
14-week course is designed for people who have applied or are
planning to apply for U.S. citizenship. Class content will include
lessons on U.S. history and civics, practice for the interview with
the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS formerly
INS) and helping students improve their English skills. To reserve
a space in the class, call Catholic Charities Immigration Services
at 578-6000. A volunteer class assistant and volunteers to help
with tutoring outside of class are also needed. If you can

Chinese New Year celebration
The Redwood Empire Chinese Association will usher in the Year of
the Dog with its annual celebration and fundraiser on Saturday,
Feb. 25 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa starting at
5 p.m. for a social hour. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and
entertainment starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10
for children 3 to 10 years of age. They are available in advance
only at Asia Mart in Santa Rosa, G&G supermarkets and the
Holiday Inn Express in Sebastopol. Proceeds benefit youth programs
and $500 high school senior scholarship program. For information
