Senior Tim Murphy and junior Daniel Erdman made HHS track and
field history last weekend, as each garnered top-four finishes at
the Meet of Champions at Edward¹s Stadium in Berkeley.
The tremendous showing earned both a coveted trip to the State
Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday (June 2
and 3) at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
Murphy, a member of last year¹s State qualifying 4×400-relay
team, will make his second straight State appearance by virtue of a
third-place finish in the boys 800-meter final on Saturday. The
senior speedster and HHS record-holder in the event blistered the
MOC track in a fast 1:55.43.
Erdman, who sits just seven inches shy of the all-time HHS mark
in the shot put, captured second in the event at the MOC with a
heave of 55¹ 2². Erdman also recorded a personal best in the discus
with a toss of 142¹ 7², good for eighth place overall.
Also turning in strong efforts at the MOC were: Justin Bingham
(17th-place, 110-hurdles, 16.02 PR and SCL best), Claire Frazer
(18th-place, 300-hurdles, 49.78, 21st-place, 100-hurdles, 17.41),
Luke Wilson (15th-place, shot put, 45¹ 2²), Deirdre Denmon
(23rd-place, discus, 88¹ 7²) and the boys 4×400-relay team of
Bingham, Alex Taylor, Jesse Webster and Murphy, 19th-place,
3:35.65).
