This year’s annual River Appreciation Festival, slated for Sept.
12, will be a celebration of Marty Griffin’s birthday. And why not?
The annual festival has been held at Marty’s home at Hop Kiln
Winery since its inception, and the elder statesman of the Russian
River environmental movement has been working as a river advocate
for decades. The annual program will support the Russian
Riverkeeper program, a watchdog program that works in conjunction
with the Friends of the Russian River. Mark your calendar and if
you are interested in being a sponsor for the event, call

Free philharmonic in Cotati?
Yes

Yes, there is such a thing as the Cotati Philharmonic and they
will be performing two free concerts in June, on June 26 in La
Plaza Park in Cotati and on Sunday, June 27 on the Windsor Town
Green. The program will be a celebration of dance through the ages,
with selections from Strauss’s “Blue Danube” and “Orpheus in the
Underworld,” and Suppé’s “Minuet and Tarantella” and a stirring
rendition of Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Both concerts
begin at 7 p.m. and are absolutely free. For more information,
visit cotatiphil.org.

Word Box
“If we would only give, just once, the same amount of reflection
to what we want to get out of life that we give to the question of
what to do with a two-week vacation, we would be startled at our
false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days.” –
Dorothy Canfield Fisher
