Football wins come in all shapes and sizes, with some a thing of beauty while others fall into a different category. One thing is certain — at the end of the year they all count.

When first-year head coach Robert “Bear” Gray took over the Healdsburg High School football program last summer, his main objective was to restore a winning culture following two straight winless seasons. 

The Healdsburg High School girl’s golf squad came up short against West County in a North Bay League match at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club on Sept. 20, falling to the hosts, 283-313.

Overcast skies and spirited competition made for a perfect day of running on Sept. 18, as hundreds of high school athletes negotiated the abbreviated, two-mile course at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa for the annual Viking Opener cross country meet.

The Cloverdale High School volleyball team continued to roll on the league volleyball circuit last week, recording straight-set wins Middletown and Kelseyville.

The varsity football Eagles held a party with everyone invited in the home opener at newly renovated John Allen Memorial Stadium on Friday, highlighting the occasion with a 47-7 romp over Piner.

The varsity football Greyhounds climbed back in the win column in dominant fashion on Friday in front of an enthusiastic Recreation Park crowd, easily dispatching the visiting Willits Wolverines, 27-7.

Healdsburg Youth Soccer players returned to the field this weekend for the first time in two years after the 2020 fall season was canceled due to the pandemic. The players did not miss a beat with strong performances across all divisions.

The Eagles are off to a strong start on the league volleyball circuit, recording recent victories over St. Helena and Middletown to push their NCL1 record to 4-2 and 5-2 overall.
