The Running Tigers’ cross country team could be the class of the North Bay League this year, based on a number of factors that could propel them to the top of the Redwood Division standings.

The 2019 high school cross country season is shaping up to be a good one for the Cloverdale running Eagles, using the off-season to lay the foundation for future success.

Winning ride — The Town of Windsor and the city of Healdsburg joined forces with the city of Cotati to be recognized in the third race on the opening day of Wine Country Racing at the Sonoma County Fair, a one-mile on the dirt starter allowance race for 3-year-olds and up. The winner was Giant Mark, owned by Johnny Taboada , trained by Samual Calvario, and ridden by Catalino Martinez. The 7-year-old gelded son of Benchmark out of the Giant’s Causeway daughter Everything Good won easily, galloping home several lengths in front of second placed Candy’s Martini and third-placed Jason X L in a time of 1:38.17. The upcoming school year will carry with it some changes in the Windsor High School coaching ranks, with several new faces joining teams in various sports.

Windsor out to defend NBL title

On July 23 Bennett Valley Golf Club hosted the Redwood Division of the North Bay Junior Golf League. Individual play started at 11:45 a.m., with the team tournament starting around 3:30 p.m. Oakmont and Bennett Valley finished tied for first place with a score of 108.

The El Molino volleyball program will hold a “Set to Kill” camp from Aug. 5 to 8 in the main gymnasium.
