Pitcher Chris Harms fires no-hitter

The irregular thwack-thwop-pop of tennis rises up from the high school courts every afternoon of the week, and often on weekends, as the student-athletes of Healdsburg High School hone their serves, returns, backspins and lobs. It seems worth the while: The school’s boys tennis team is definitely competitive this year.

Healdsburg’s narrow path to an NBL Redwood baseball pennant opened a bit wider Wednesday afternoon. In dramatic fashion, the Greyhounds broke a 7-inning scoreless game on a two-out error by the Montgomery shortstop that allowed Tyler Swanson to score from second in the top of the eight inning.

After waiting for the post-season playoffs to conclude, the NBL-Redwood commissioners finally released the lists of All League selections in all sports—badminton, tennis and golf, as well as baseball and softball...

The scoreboard showed a tie game, 14-14, which reflected the two touchdowns each the scored in the first half. But with Healdsburg's star player out with a twisted ankle, the second half was a disappointment.

That the sport of badminton is again being played in high school gyms around the area is due in large measure to the efforts of Scott Bischof. A former competitor and founder of the World Badminton Museum, he introduced the sport at several schools including Healdsburg.

A pair of great seasons came to an abrupt end last week for Cloverdale High School baseball and softball teams, with both advancing in the North Coast Section Division-4 playoff tournament before being bounced in the quarterfinals.

It had been three years, or as the whisper throughout the crowd put it more exactly, 1,072 days, since the Healdsburg Hounds Varsity football team had won a game. But last Friday night, in front of the jam-packed home grandstands, the Hounds ended that losing streak with a 35-21 win over the neighboring Cloverdale Eagles...

The Healdsburg softball team had a series of blowout wins against opponents earlier in the season, until it went to Sonoma Valley and encountered a fired-up Lady Dragons team. Often a league contender themselves, the Dragons had been on an unlucky streak until Healdsburg came to town...

Though this was AJ Crosby’s first year head-coaching a high school varsity team, it was by no means his first coaching experience. “Last year I was a JV coach at Rancho Cotate,” he said. “And for the past four-and-a-half years I’ve been a head coach for North Bay Basketball Academy for AAU seasons.”
