Court Veteran — El Mo’s Emma Vierra is a key player for the Lady

The Lady Lions continued their resurgence in pre-season hoops
last week, recording one win in two outings.
El Mo (2-1) opened the action on Nov. 23 with a 55-41 win over
visiting St. Vincent, before suffering a 50-45 setback at San Marin
on Saturday.
The clash with St. Vincent took on a nostalgic tone, as former
Lion’s coach Jim Fagundes squared off against former player and
current El Mo coach Melissa Jones.
The Lions took control of the contest early, establishing a
comfortable first-half lead before coasting to an eventual,
14-point victory.
Leading the offensive attack were Shayna Levine (22 points),
Stephanie Singler (10 points), Siera Taylor (8 points), Emma Vierra
(5 points), Kerri Rampone (2 points), Carly Graves (2 points),
Megan Nonella (2 points), and Kaity Gentry (2 points).
“We pretty much had a good lead most of the game,” said Jones.
“Both teams were just opening up their season and were a little
rusty.”
Things didn’t go as well at San Marin on Saturday, as the
Mustangs started the game on an 11-0 run and opened up a 17-point
lead at the half. The Lions whittled away at the deficit after
intermission, but the comeback would fall just short in a 50-45
loss.
Leading point-getters for the Lions were Vierra (13), Levine
(11), Gentry (7), Nonella (6), Rampone (4), Graves  (2), and Molly
Nagle (2).
Scheduling notes
The Lions will resume pre-season action this weekend (Dec. 2-4)
in a tournament at Marin Academy.
