The great French filmmaker Jacques Tati only made a handful of movies: 'Playtime' is one of his best. Virtually wordless (while a bouillabaisse of European languages is spoken, the gags are visual), the film follows Monsieur Hulot as he navigates the modern world with his self-confidence and composure unaffected.

"The Shape of Things," a play by Neil LaBute, will be performed on stage at The 222 on two successive weekends, Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2. It’s billed as a “fascinating study into the nature of love and art, and what happens when the two collide.” Tickets from free (18 and under) to $105 (gold level seating).

As in the past few years, Aniysa Fritz will play the role of emcee, deftly shifting the audience’s attention and expectations from what they have just heard to what’s coming next. Like Marilyn Nagel, she is a “co-licensee” of the TEDx brand, based on the original TED talks from 1990—so named for the convergence of Technology, Entertainment and Design.

Often voted Best Dance Band in local music polls and surveys, the Pulsators have been seen on Healdsburg stages since back in the day, if not earlier. They’ve lost none of their ska-rock R&B roots, and they’ll bring it all to the Coyote Den on Sunday.

The Shape of Things, running at The 222 in Healdsburg through March 2, is the tale of four university students whose paths cross and how their lives change (for the better? for the worse?) over the span of 18 weeks.

It’s time again to set all clocks forward an hour to comport with Daylight Saving Time, to make better use of the longer daylight available during summer. Officially begins at 2am, which becomes 3am when clocks are set forward. DST runs until Nov. 2, the first Sunday in November.

Volunteers work to remove invasive French broom from a slope of the Fitch Mountain Park and Open Space on March 8. A similar invasive plant extirpation will take place Saturday, March 15, at Badger Park to remove the giant reed Arundo donax, from 8:30am to noon. If rain cancels, those who sign up will be alerted of a new date.

Since 1989’s Sex, Lies and Videotape, Steven Soderbergh has not only helped revolutionize independent film in the United States, but has consistently found ways to move cinema into blazingly original spaces of storytelling and technical innovation while remaining so prolific that it remains to be seen if he ever actually sleeps.

Local Americana band SoloRio plays at the Ranch at Lake Sonoma from 5:30pm to sunset. The first event in the venue’s summer series, held the last Sunday of every month through September. Always a lot of community fun.... plus more events this week in Healdsburg.
