He Liked Blues Before It Had a Name

Jeremie Albino
Last year saw the release of Jeremie Albino’s fourth album, Our Time in the Sun, which he recorded at Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach’s studio in Nashville. Praised by music journal No Depression for its “heart-on-he-sleeve” intensity, the 12-song collection pays the 32-year-old musician’s deep respect for not only the blues, but also early R&B, classic country, old-school rock ’n’ roll and a whole lot of Southern soul.

Pulsators rock band
Often voted Best Dance Band in local music polls and surveys, the Pulsators have been seen on Healdsburg stages since back in the day, if not earlier. They’ve lost none of their ska-rock R&B roots, and they’ll bring it all to the Coyote Den on Sunday.

Rockabilly ‘Rev’ Plays the Psychobilly Hits

Rev. Horton Heat Trio
Rev. Horton Heat's music has been labeled psychobilly, alt-rock and latter-wave rockabilly, and he’s well versed in not only some of the same ground the Stray Cats trod, but also old-school country and blues.

Cloverdale Goes Renegade

Renegade Orchestra
When asked about how the idea for a rock ’n’ roll orchestra for all came about, Jason Eckl dove in on the feeling that orchestral performances can be a bit stiff. “My wife is cellist Rebecca Roudman, who is a member of a number of Bay Area orchestras [including both the Oakland East-Bay Symphony and the Santa Rosa Symphony], and this means I’ve been to a lot of orchestra concerts,” he said.

Short, Sweet Shows on Raven Stage

Healdsburg Happenings, Jan. 30

Scene from Tati's 'PlayTime'
The great French filmmaker Jacques Tati only made a handful of movies: 'Playtime' is one of his best. Virtually wordless (while a bouillabaisse of European languages is spoken, the gags are visual), the film follows Monsieur Hulot as he navigates the modern world with his self-confidence and composure unaffected.

Winter Festival in the Jazz Town by the River

Venezuelan Edward Simon to play Healdsburg
The Healdsburg Jazz Winter Festival runs from Thursday, Jan. 30, to Sunday, Feb. 2, with shows at the Paul Mahder Gallery, Spoonbar, Montage, the Michel-Schlumberger winery—even St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where Stella Heath’s tribute to Ella Fitzgerald will take place Saturday afternoon. (Heath performs locally year-round, but this Feb. 1 show is already sold out.)
