What’s for lunch?

King salmon continue to make their way to the Golden Gate or to the Klamath in waves and as a result, scores of salmon off of our Sonoma coast have been more sporadic than the solid action we had all July. Saturday out of Bodega Bay, sport boats landed very few – and then on Sunday, the action reportedly increased markedly with several boats reporting limits of large king salmon to 40 pounds.

On the night of Dec. 2, 1966, Shirley Clarke and a tiny crew convened in her apartment at the Hotel Chelsea to make a film. There, for 12 straight hours, they filmed the one-and-only Jason Holliday as he spun tales, sang, donned costumes and reminisced about good times and bad behavior as a gay hustler, sometime houseboy and aspiring cabaret performer. The result is a mesmerizing portrait of a remarkable, charming and tortured man, who is by turns hilarious and heartbreaking.

In the movie “The Terminal”, Tom Hanks portrays a man stuck in an airport for nine months due to a bureaucratic snafu. He can’t speak English and is left to fend for himself in the international terminal of New York Airport. As the story unfolds, he learns English, makes friends, and finds ways to get food, money and a home for himself. At times he has only saltine crackers and ketchup to eat. He accepts his situation with a positive attitude.

I read recently in a fishing blog that mooching was better than sex. While it is a lot of fun, I am not so sure about that and, more importantly, I am not prepared to debate it in this “fishing” column.
