It was a 4th grade lesson on birds and flowers at Oak Grove School in the 1920’s that ignited Louise Hallberg’s passion for science and nature. It seems to be the winged one’s she’s most fond of, earning her the nickname, “The Butterfly Lady.”

In winemaking, “crush” is not only an act essential to the art and industry of viticulture, but a term for the seasonal turn from growing to winemaking, of harvesting the grapes and releasing their juice and pulp so fermentation can begin. In Healdsburg, it's a seasonal winetasting celebration, held this year on Oct. 11.
