Fear not, bibliophiles: the Friends of the Healdsburg Library has announced the next book sale will be “just before the Ides of March 2026, but we need to get enough donations to make this feasible,” said Board President Tracy Logan.

"We’re returning to most of our usual library events for all ages–Homework Help began Jan. 6, the bilingual Intercambio gab sessions restarted Jan. 8 and Read to a Dog is back on Saturdays from 11am to noon," reports Jon Haupt.

The building modernization project continues at the Healdsburg Regional Library on Piper Street. A recent walkthrough revealed that the contractors have been hard at work, with upgraded electrical and plumbing, demolition of existing restrooms, and new construction in the children’s and teen rooms underway. The Healdsburg Library is not the only local public resource undergoing a renovation this spring. The historic Healdsburg Museum, located ironically in the former Carnegie Library building on Matheson, closed in mid-January and will remain closed until late March or early April for renovation.

What a year this has been for the library—it seems like we have been planning and preparing for the Building Modernization Project for so many years, and yet the final few months in the lead-up to our temporary move to the Healdsburg Community Center were positively exhausting...

Says regional manager Jon Haupt, "The Mini Library is set to open on Sept. 3 to offer most of the same services we provide normally, with the same hours as previously offered at Piper Street, seven days a week."

As the months roll by, the Healdsburg Library Modernization Project continues along its steady path. Week by week, the contractors complete one task after another, bringing us closer to the reopening of the 139 Piper St. library we all know and love.

The newly refreshed Children’s Room lives up to the hype. The laser-cut madrone tree silhouettes provide a charming entryway into the room. Tables and chairs in the room are of different heights to accommodate a variety of sizes and preferences, with spaces for children of different ages and interests.

The top-to-bottom modernization of the Healdsburg Regional Library will begin in September and last through spring 2025, the county’s library system has confirmed. But the library at 139 Piper St. will close to the public a week earlier, on Aug. 25, a week before the temporary 'mini-library' opens on Sept. 3...

The library and museum world is reeling from a new executive order issued on March 14, 2025, targeting the Institute for Museum and Library Services, which provides federal funding to support libraries in all 50 states. Sonoma County Library Director Erika Thibault reports...
