From the Library
Across the county the last month, Sonoma County Library has been offering a series of free back to school events for teachers. This series of open houses are a great opportunity to learn about free resources available to educators that might help enrich your teaching for the year.
Ripe Rewards: Tomatoes
There are certain times of the year here in Sonoma County when you feel compelled to, you really must, work with certain foods. It is almost criminal not to, because they grow so beautifully, and most of all they taste out of this world.
Still too big to fail
Our contemporary times come with many anniversaries we’d just as soon not celebrate. We just passed the 17th remembrance of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 from 2001 and soon all of Sonoma County and beyond will mark the first anniversary of the North Bay wildfires that destroyed almost 6,000 houses and killed 44 people.
Around Town: Elections
As local elections start to heat up (mail-in ballots go out the first week in October), there are more and more opportunities to hear the candidates speak on various issues.
Someday we’ll laugh bout this . . . right? Blank Years Old
A friend posted a challenge on Facebook to share how old you are, without using any numbers. I love taking trips down memory lane and letting the images, smells, feelings and sounds wash over me. It’s like pulling out old family albums or yearbooks and falling back through time to a time that feels as recent as yesterday. I let my mind wander back, and here’s a few of the things I could come up with.
Wine Words Almost a year later
Approaching the one-year mark since the devastating October fires, I am practicing gratitude. Only last week did I have the heart to venture back to Deer Trail Road.
Market Report
It’s a glorious time of year for our farmers, as they’re coming into their peak growing season. All spring and summer long they’ve been tending their late summer/fall crops, and they’re finally ready to bring them to market, in all their perfection.
Arts & Entertainment
‘Angels’ lands at Raven Performing Arts
:Every Sunday matinee we do a post-show discussion with the audience, so they get a chance to make comments and ask questions of the actors. We saw there were a lot of people who were quite moved and quite touched by the play. So the opening weekend could not have gone better, as far as I’m concerned," said director Steven David Martin.
