Decoding Teenagers: Looking Good on Paper
My sister and nephew are in the throngs of his final college application process—the personal essay. This essay, they tell me, is a deal breaker. The 650 words have to wow the reader, impress them and bring them to tears. As my sister put it, “You have to look good on paper.”
Decoding Teenagers: When You Nail Something
There is something very satisfactory in knowing that you have completed a task well. Self pride and worth, that feeling of accomplishment is a natural mood booster. Decoding Teenagers: Just go with it
When my younger sister was 16 she decided that she wanted to go to Juilliard. I remember her announcing it one night at dinner and I’ll never forget the deer in headlights reaction that both of my parents had. Her revelation had them both stammering, unsure of what to say. I guess if one of my teenagers declared their desire to go to Stanford my husband and I would feel the same way; speechless.
