The month of May, now almost over, is/was Small Business Month in California and May 5 through 11 was National Small Business Week.

In a penultimate battle over political might and cultural correctness, the soon-to-be former United States of America chose its first female president. She was the daughter of a reality TV star, himself a former president. She represented the Inner Party against another woman candidate of the Outer Party.

The building modernization project continues at the Healdsburg Regional Library on Piper Street. A recent walkthrough revealed that the contractors have been hard at work, with upgraded electrical and plumbing, demolition of existing restrooms, and new construction in the children’s and teen rooms underway. Sitting at a table with wine, food, family and friends was where Kathleen Kelley Young was truly happy. I think of the last project into which she poured herself collaborating with her husband and daughter establishing their Cloverdale Kelley & Young Wine Garden Inn. Early on she described the endeavor as sustainably farmed, passionately prepared, gratefully shared. It is the ‘gratefully shared’ part I hold on to now, as I remember Kathleen who died early last week.

Eyeing the new year

It has been a busy summer at the library this year.
