We Have the Need, the Need for Cheese
This spectacular table setting was at Bricoleur. Brie–co–leur comes from the French bricolage, which loosely means “something constructed from available materials.”
In English, one might say “cobbled together.” But in French, the expression can denote a compliment, as it includes concepts of improvisation and ingenuity.

Keeping the peace
The new year of 2018 tiptoed into Sonoma County early Monday as wisps of winter fog lifted, making way for another splendid day full of yellow sunshine, quiet after-holiday echoes and friendly waves to neighbors going about their leisure or small chores. De we live in a peaceful paradise, or what?
Neighbors
Jennifer’s family comes from the tiny village of Palo Alto in the state of Michoacan, Mexico. Her dad, José, immigrated undocumented to California first in 1989 and then again in 1994. In 1994, he remained in Healdsburg, gaining success through his hard work as a full-time vineyard supervisor. Though two of his brothers became residents through the 1986 amnesty, this was before José’s arrival. It took him 18 years to become a California resident.
Cityscape: From the city manager
At the Aug, 20 Healdsburg City Council meeting, the council tackled the question of how many hotel rooms should be allowed around the Plaza within the Plaza Retail District, how many hotel rooms should be allowed in the Downtown Commercial District and whether the city should require all new hotels to provide affordable housing as part of any new project.

Commentary: Relief and recovery — time for bold action
Anyone who has ventured out around town over the past days knows that these are desperate times for many small businesses, the life blood of our community. Dire times demand bold measures and strong leadership from our city council and officials. During past crises, floods and fires, the city has acted decisively. Its leadership during the Kincade Fire avoided a devastating scenario for the community. However, now, with the double threat of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn, the city should immediately start relief efforts and plan for a strong economic recovery. The citizens group Healdsburg 2040 encourages the city to use some its financial bolster of approximately $49.4 million in invested reserves and over $3.3 million in cash reserves for disaster relief.
From the Library
Across the county the last month, Sonoma County Library has been offering a series of free back to school events for teachers. This series of open houses are a great opportunity to learn about free resources available to educators that might help enrich your teaching for the year.
Commentary: Yes on Measure F, yes for Windsor schools

Measure F funds will be used to renovate and modernize the district’s older schools; upgrade libraries, science and computer labs; complete the Windsor High School stadium complex; and build a new elementary school to accommodate student enrollment. Bonds funds will be applied at every school to benefit our elementary, middle and high school students.

‘Angels’ lands at Raven Performing Arts
:Every Sunday matinee we do a post-show discussion with the audience, so they get a chance to make comments and ask questions of the actors. We saw there were a lot of people who were quite moved and quite touched by the play. So the opening weekend could not have gone better, as far as I’m concerned," said director Steven David Martin.
