One of the perks of working in schools and having a best friend who is a teacher is the fact that we have always been on the same schedule. We count down the days to breaks and vacations together, and if you shook one of us awake from a sound sleep in late April or early May, chances are we could bark out the exact number of “wake ups” we have left before summer.

Examining the Strategic Plan process
Earlier this year, the city of Healdsburg embarked on the public engagement and outreach process for its next five-year plan, the 2020-25 Strategic Plan. Our 2020-25 Strategic Plan is intended to provide a road map that helps city leaders develop a vision for the future. A strategic plan helps us determine the priorities, procedures and operations to achieve that vision, as well as create consensus on expectations and provide guidelines on how to use our limited resources.

Return to the Russian River
When Jake Messing stood in front of the mural he had just completed for Russian Riverkeeper on the north side of the nonprofit’s headquarters at 139 Healdsburg Ave., he had finished more than another mural. He had made a return to the source from the sea himself, like the salmon he portrayed.
