This is the first season for girls flag football at Healdsburg high school. The turnout for the team has been really impressive to see; we had about 25 girls try out and we have a team with lots of amazing athletes with different skill sets. High school flag football, especially in Sonoma county, has blown up in the last couple of years and we are beyond excited to be able to throw our hat in the ring.
Learning this new sport can be a fairly complicated process, and all of the athletes on our team have done an incredible job at being ready to learn and adapt and try any position on the field. We are all very excited for the start of the season.
Our first game was at home on Friday, Aug. 28, against Lower Lake. There was a scoreless tie at the half, but then the Trojans got some good looks downfield and won, 19-0.
We have 17 games, all on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The regular season ends on Oct. 21, with our final season game at Piner High School.
The team and the coaching staff look forward to a fun season with lots of opportunity to learn and improve and to lay the foundation for a program that will only continue to grow in the future years.
