Frosh hot as they start league
The Healdsburg FrosHounds, owners of a 6-2 pre-league record, opened their SCL season yesterday against Casa Grande with a good chance to take it all. Coach Bill Tearney has a team that plays a tight man-to-man defense, forces turnovers, steals passes and is good on rebounds, he reports. He uses starters Rich Passalacqua, his best defensive player, Lonnie Calvert, who can force turnovers, Allan Beer, who at 6-3 dominates the boards and the game and Paul Deas and John Barber, both good shooters. As relievers he has talent in Dave Ramirez and Gene Whitehall.
Tearney’s squad opened the season with a 42-40 loss to Santa Rosa Junior High, and then ran through Ukiah and Slater Junior High before disposing of SRJH, 59-31, and beat them again, 39-23. Rincon Valley smudged their season with a 31-29 victory, and then the Frosh beat Marin Catholic last Friday, 51-43, and Ft. Bragg on Saturday, 63-44. In those last two games, Deas had 18 points on both nights. Barber had 14 against Marin and 16 against Ft. Bragg, and Beer had 18 against Ft. Bragg.
