The search is on for a new principal at Healdsburg Elementary
School after Peter Fong announced he had accepted a new job in
Sunnyvale.
Fong, who has served as principal for the past two years, will
continue through the end of the school year and plans to move to
the South Bay this summer. Healdsburg Unified School District
Superintendent Jeff Harding said a search for his replacement is
already underway.
“I’m confident we’re going to find an outstanding replacement,”
he said. “With all the downsizing around California there are many
quality leaders looking for a new district and a new position.”
Harding had nothing but praise for Fong, who notified the
district that he was interviewing for the job in advance. “We’re
thrilled that we had two years of his leadership,” he said. “The
school is significantly stronger than it was when he got here, and
that’s a sign of an outstanding leader.”
Fong also spoke well of the district, explaining that he’d taken
the new job for his family and not because he was unhappy with the
community.
“It was a deal I just couldn’t pass up,” he said. “In terms of
job satisfaction, I have nothing but great things to say about
Healdsburg and the school I’m working at. This just gives me the
better opportunity to take care of my young, growing family.”
Fong and his wife are the parents of two with a third on the
way.
“I can’t say enough positive things about how I’ve loved being
here,” he said.
Fong is one of three administrators leaving the district this
summer. High school principal John Curry is leaving after the
district opted against renewing his contract, and Marce Becerra
Principal Matt Myres recently took another principal job at Thomas
Page Elementary School in the Cotati-Rohnert Park School District
after his position was eliminated in the district’s ongoing budget
cuts.
