Editor: I write to congratulate Healdsburg District Hospital:
job well done!
On Thursday, December 5, apparently an emergency was declared at
the Geysers when 17 persons inhaled gaseous fumes. At about 8:45 A.
M. I happened to be in a meeting in the large conference room at
the Hospital when word came in that the injured people were being
routed to Healdsburg.
My group was asked immediately to leave the room so that it
could be used as a staging area as necessary, and medical personnel
began controlled hurrying to prepare for the arrivals. It was quite
a scene, although comforting. An earthquake, a fire — it could
have been my family or friends, or me, on the way to this
Hospital.
I understand that, as the Trauma Center for the county, Memorial
Hospital was first notified of the disaster and directed that the
people be taken to Healdsburg. I am willing to bet that the people
being rushed to a hospital for treatment were glad not to have to
go all the way to Santa Rosa in the morning traffic.
Let’s use and support our Hospital, so it will be there when we
need it.
