Someday We’ll Laugh About This . . . Right? It’s going to be a very practical Christmas…

I was driving by the Luther Burbank Center and an upcoming show caught my eye: An Electric Christmas.

About Town

By now, most people have heard something in the news about a large zone of ocean trash that’s been identified and labeled as the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch, located off the California coast. It’s one of several areas identified in the Pacific Ocean where large concentrations of human trash, particularly plastics, are creating detrimental impacts to marine life. Many of you may have noticed public works staff removing trash from some Windsor creeks in September and wondered what was up with all the clipboards and note taking that accompanied the work. Well, it’s not far off to say that the work being done by public works staff is, in part, meant to address the town’s contribution to a global problem – namely, the removal of trash from local creeks, which ultimately gets transported during storm flows to larger rivers like the Russian River and then to the Pacific Ocean.

Foggy Mountain Tales: An okra legacy

I started my Monday morning by picking squash, cucumbers, some tomatoes, a handful of strawberries and what my Oklahoma family calls “a mess of okra.” Okra is a favorite at our house. My Oklahoma grandmother, Momo as she preferred, served it breaded and fried with nearly every meal as long as okra season lasted.

Lies don’t work unless they are believed

In a very alarming development, it has been discovered that all 13 local tax measures that were reported to have passed after election night on Nov. 3 have instead all failed. The staff at the county’s Registrar of Voters’ office, using new computer equipment, entered all of the ballots into the machines with the wrong edges facing to the left. Hence, instead of the tax measures passing by the required two-thirds majority needed, they all actually were defeated by that amount.

Someday We’ll Laugh About This . . . Right? National School Bus Safety Week

I know I could never be a bus driver. I don’t even know where to start on the reasons why, but my hat is off to all those intrepid souls who navigate barges on wheels each and every day.
