Editor: Let the silly season begin. I read the ridiculous letter
that Stan Gold wrote in your paper last week and had to respond.
Mr. Gold was dissing Mike McGuire for the endorsements he’s been
receiving. Apparently some organizations that have traditionally
endorsed Paul Kelley have gone with McGuire since Kelley dropped
out. Sounds like a bad case of sour grapes to me, especially since
Mike has also been picking up the majority of organizations that
backed Fudge last time including local teachers, nurses and the
Sonoma County Law Enforcement Association . Both Fudge and McGuire
are competing for the same endorsements, the organizations in
question just chose to go with McGuire. Does all this righteous
indignation from Mr. Gold mean that Fudge would have turned down
those endorsements had they been offered? Of course not. Had Fudge
been endorsed by the Farm Bureau or the Sonoma County Alliance
she’d be sending out press releases lauding the diversity of her
support. But they went with McGuire so now they’re bad, bad,
bad.
My hope is that rather than focusing on personal attacks, we all
realize that our next Supervisor will need to work with all sides
from our community. Mr. Gold only perpetuates the ugly partisan
politics that has brought our country and state to a
standstill.
