Analy and El Molino girls basketball teams turned in a solid stretch on the Sonoma County League hard court, with the Tigers gaining a split against top-flight opponents, while the Lions remained in hot pursuit of their first league win.

There are softball wins and then there are victories, the kind that represent a defining moment in a season.  

High school soccer season is in full swing for the Cloverdale boys and girls varsity teams, with both setting their sights on a winning campaign.

It took the Healdsburg Prune Packers less than two innings to start sending balls over the Rec Park fence. Center fielder Jonathan Kim of the University of Michigan slammed a high fly over the right field fence with two runners on, and from that point on the power-hitting Prune Packers have made hitting homers part of their game plan.

The Windsor Knights Jr. Midget cheer team, led by head coach Christina Carroll, assistant coaches Katie Young and Jordyn Vehmeyer and junior coach Jayden Tyler have had an amazing cheer season.

Visiting St. Helena spoiled the Eagle’s Homecoming celebration on Friday at John Allen Memorial Stadium, easily dispatching the Eagles in a 49-6 varsity football rout.

Winning ride — The Town of Windsor and the city of Healdsburg joined forces with the city of Cotati to be recognized in the third race on the opening day of Wine Country Racing at the Sonoma County Fair, a one-mile on the dirt starter allowance race for 3-year-olds and up. The winner was Giant Mark, owned by Johnny Taboada , trained by Samual Calvario, and ridden by Catalino Martinez. The 7-year-old gelded son of Benchmark out of the Giant’s Causeway daughter Everything Good won easily, galloping home several lengths in front of second placed Candy’s Martini and third-placed Jason X L in a time of 1:38.17.
