2019, a year to remember in local sports
As we near the end of another year it’s only fitting that we look back and pay tribute to some of the best moments in local sports.
Day at the Races
Winning ride — The Town of Windsor and the city of Healdsburg joined forces with the city of Cotati to be recognized in the third race on the opening day of Wine Country Racing at the Sonoma County Fair, a one-mile on the dirt starter allowance race for 3-year-olds and up. The winner was Giant Mark, owned by Johnny Taboada , trained by Samual Calvario, and ridden by Catalino Martinez. The 7-year-old gelded son of Benchmark out of the Giant’s Causeway daughter Everything Good won easily, galloping home several lengths in front of second placed Candy’s Martini and third-placed Jason X L in a time of 1:38.17. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church’s Catholic Youth Organization game of the week
Coach Dan Whitteaker’s 7th grade boys team had to protect their early lead to get the win in this week’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Church’s Catholic Youth Organization game of the week. Coach Whitteaker’s team almost blew a ten point, fourth quarter lead in defeating St. Francis of Sonoma 25-22.
OLG basketball game of the week
Our Lady of Guadalupe’s fourth grade boys team led wire to wire to grab a 37-18 victory in this week’s Catholic Youth Organization game of the week. The win over St. Vincent of Petaluma left coach Rod Harris’ team with a 9-1 record to close out the North Bay CYO regular season. They earned the #1 seed in this weekend’s playoffs.

The Eagles managed to dodge wet weather to get in a pair of preseason baseball games last week, competing in the Mike West Invitational Tournament in Colusa County.
