The varsity basketball Greyhounds will be gunning for a strong finish to the North Bay League campaign this week, hoping to extend their season for as long as possible.

The year 2015 will be remembered for outstanding individual and team achievements by Cloverdale High athletes. This week, we’ll take a look back at some of the top moments over the past 12 months. There were too many stories to list them all, but here are a few of the year’s best.

Local squad included three Analy players

Junior cross-country standout Paden Collard etched their name in the Cloverdale High School history books on Saturday, Nov. 24, competing in the Division 5 race at the CIF State Cross-Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.

It was a perfect day for baseball on Sunday, April 3, as the Cloverdale Little League celebrated with Opening Day ceremonies at Daly Field. Festivities included the parade of teams, an invocation by Pastor Thomas Craig, the playing of the National Anthem (sung by Ariana Fernandez) and the first pitch thrown by Michael Nixon of Papa’s Pizza. This year’s CLL features 182 players filling out 16 teams from T-Ball to the Junior Division. Regular season games run from April to the end of May, followed by the Tournament of Champions and finishing with the District-35 All-Star tournaments in July.

It was the opening weekend of league play for Our Lady of Guadalupe’s 25 Catholic Youth Organization teams. This week’s game of the week was a 48-41 victory over St. Eugene of Santa Rosa for coach Rene Meza’s 8th grade boys’ team.

Having worked at a bar in Hawaii, Maurice Bigden is very aware that time zones don’t always mesh with sports events elsewhere, and the month-long soccer World Cup is no exception.
