“Healdsburg Varsity Boys is in a great position to qualify as a team for the CIF State Championship this year, especially after beating Convent & Stuart Hall at the Artichoke Invitational,” said coach Kate Guthrie, herself a former all-American.

Game one of the 2025 Championship series was held on Tuesday, July 29, at Arcata Ball Park, where just two weeks earlier the Packers swept a three-game series.  The Humboldt Crabs made the most of home field advantage to defeat the Healdsburg Prune Packers 10-8 on Tuesday night. The NBL Redwood championship tourney delivered picture-perfect fall conditions—mid-70s temperatures, bluebird skies, dry fairways and firm greens. The setting helped the Healdsburg girls golf team finish the regular season with a flawless 10–0 record in league play.

“This opening league win sets the tone for a season of growth and high expectations,” said coach Todd Au following the Sept. 16 match in Ukiah.

“As far as securing a win, we just really need to maintain focus and take care of the little things,” said coach Taylor Tappin. “Most of our games have been lost because we lose focus on defense or special teams, and give up too many big plays. If we can lock in and do our jobs, then we should be able to play with anyone in our league.”

The total amount of $70,835 was down slightly from last year’s $74,160, still the largest single-year donation given by the Boosters. It is a half-century-old organization of parents and former athletes who want to keep helping out the school’s sports.

With the football Greyhounds taking a break this past weekend (their Sept. 12 game against Santa Rosa forfeited due to injuries and suspensions), sports fans turned up at Frost Gym on Thursday to see the girls volleyball teams take on Montgomery High in not one but three games: freshman, JV and varsity teams all competed for a full evening of action in the close quarters of the former East Gym on the high school campus.
