Cloverdale nearing finish line in race for league pennant

The week just passed encapsulated the great baseball program built by coach Joey Gomes with the Healdsburg Prune Packers. Tons of powerful offense paired with fantastic pitching and defensive web gems, on a team built with rising stars from across the country. It is frankly surprising to see the determination and great chemistry within a team like the Packers after only a month of playing together.

The 2026 North Coasts Section division playoffs got underway this week with both of Healdsburg’s “diamond teams” seeded #2 in their respective divisions. Play is now underway...

Last Friday night, in front of an excited and anxious home crowd, the Healdsburg Varsity Football team lost to the Terra Linda Trojans, unable to put an end to their three-game losing streak. The Hounds, who are now 3-5 overall, played an emotional game, especially in the second half, but their 28-19 loss to Terra Linda gives them a 0-4 record in league play.

If nothing else the final score, 69-34, shows the Greyhounds were in the game, even after a forfeit the previous week kept them off the field. For the first time this year, they started with a full roster as the early season suspensions expired, giving the team a chance to get a tough game under their belt before the NBL-Mountain league debut this Friday in San Rafael.

The Cloverdale cross-country team put the final touches on a strong league season in a dual meet with Clear Lake on the 2.8-mile course at Bothe Park in St. Helena on Nov. 4.

This year’s girls Greyhounds Varsity Volleyball team finished with a 7-20 record overall, fifth in their league at 3-7. But that never stopped the team from coming out and playing with a vibrancy that only high school girls volleyball can exhibit.

Under coach Scott Weidemier, the wrestlers of Healdsburg High—in all classes, both boys and girls—continue to “punch above their weight” in the competitive 11-team North Bay League.

For the Healdsburg cross country running team, the year’s first invitational at Rancho Cotate gave them a chance to prove their status as one of the best teams in the county. On the other hand, only four schools participated: Healdsburg High, Cardinal Newman, Santa Rosa and host Rancho Cotate.

Healdsburg’s tennis-playing boys are more than holding their own in court competition this spring.
